“I didn’t want to leave, when the time came I was very sad, everything was becoming automated it was like the tide coming in and you couldn’t stop it,”
John Cook, Tasmania’s last Lighthouse keeper

Cape Bruny Lighthouse Tours

The heritage-listed, historic Cape Bruny Lighthouse has been restored to her former beauty and is the only Lighthouse
in Southern Tasmania open for guided tours. Developed by business operator Craig Parsey and former resident at the Cape Bruny Light-station during the 1970s as the son of a lighthouse keeper family.

Take a fully guided tour of this spectacular structure, towering above the rugged coastline of the South West tip of Bruny Island, with Bruny Island Safaris or Cape Bruny Lighthouse Tours.
Hear stories of shipwreck tragedies on the nearby islands and reefs, convict hardship, lighthouse keepers arduous duties, and family life at some of Tasmania’s light-stations.

Climb the original wrought iron spiral staircase to the top of the lighthouse and step out onto the balcony to take in the breathtaking views of the Southern Ocean and the Wild Tasman Sea, South East Cape, Whale Head, and the small islands dotting the coastline. Experience the extraordinary & vast scenery for amazing photo opportunities at every point of the compass. See the beautiful fresnel lenses that have been in place for nearly 120 years and learn all about the intricacies of a lighthouse.

We employ local Bruny Island residents with a wealth of local knowledge and tips to help you enjoy your visit to Bruny Island. All stories and facts are documented from past lighthouse keepers we have met with and further research is continuing to delve deeper into the region’s history.
